We first met...
Through a mutual friend. After coming to terms with being alone on Valentine’s day in 2007, we “jokingly” talked about being each others “back-up” Valentine while on MSN one night. Scooter got the address of the family home from my sister and sent an anonymous rose to the house with the note “I hope this makes your day xo”.
After Jemma (our mutual friend) spilled the beans not even an hour after the rose arrived, some more MSN chats ensued and a deal was made to meet up at a Valentine’s Day party at a club that they both used to frequent (Next Nightclub). After a long and lingering first hug hello, and many sips from the courage cup it was time to share a dance and later, an unplanned and unexpectedly exhilarating first kiss was shared under the stairs. Now every year Elise receives the same single rose on Valentine’s Day with same anonymous note “I hope this makes your day xo”.

The proposal...
After falling in love with New York the first time we visited together in 2012, a special connection and particular photo was taken in the Main Concourse of Grand Central Station that we both love and hang proudly on our old fridge at home. When we confirmed our next visit to the USA in a group of 9 close friends, and after realizing that it would be our 7 year anniversary while over there, I started to put my plan in motion.
I had to get a ring, and as Elise doesn’t wear rings, or much jewelry on the regular, I needed help. Enter our great friend Caitlin! Caitlin came ring shopping with me and with her guidance I found 2 rings that we agreed would work, but they needed to come together to be the perfect ring. After 8 weeks of sweating, the ring arrived with only 1 week to spare.
The day before our anniversary, I started letting our crew know one by one that I needed them to suggest going to Grand Central Station as I was going to propose! Everyone was excited and played their parts perfectly, our friend Matt was going to get everyone together for a group photo once we were in the Main Concourse, right near where that photo of us was taken back in 2012. I would be standing toward the back, all I needed to do was step back, get down on one knee and wait for Elise to turn around and see me.
Everyone smiled for the photo, I got into position, and as everyone turned around from the photo Elise spotted me and yelled “What are you doing?!” to which I responded “Elise Hull...Will you marry me?” It was SUCH a rush, she obviously said yes, and we all hugged it out and cried happy tears, then shared a celebratory bottle of Champagne at Michael Jordan’s restaurant in Grand Central Station.

The photographer...
Aleksandar Jason Weddings
Scooter and Aleks used to work at events together, they kept in touch and Scooter kept up to date with his work. When he started shooting more weddings, we saw some of his shots and knew his style would suit us. We liked his ideas, the movement in his photos and the way that he seemed to capture the mood, we were lucky to have him.
Dream wedding...
We are huge lovers of nature so we knew that we wanted something surrounded by lots of trees. After researching a bunch of venues, we came across Mount View Estate – we were ecstatic that it had such a vast variety of trees, flowers and plants throughout the property, it basically styled itself!
We wanted to add a few little personal touches to the pavillion but wanted to keep it minimal and bring in a few things to compliment the natural surroundings. We did this by sourcing festoon lights for outside and macramé hanging plants and lanterns that were hung from the exposed beams inside, and of course lots of wonderful white flowers and green foliage to keep with the simple and fresh theme we were going for.

The bridal party...
We had two each. My bridesmaids were my sisters and the groomsmen were Scooter's two best friends.
The bridesmaids wore...
Nude knee-length dresses from ASOS, with nude shoes by Wittner. For accessories they had Lovisa earrings and Colette by Colette Hayman necklaces.
The groom and groomsmen wore...
The black suits and shoes were by Joe Black, with a white Gibson shirt, a black Calvin Klein tie and a tie clip from Ties n Cuffs.
The wedding dress...
I wore the Pradera gown by Pronovias from the Raffaele Ciuca Brunswick Emporium with Spurr shoes from The Iconic. For accessories I had Samantha Wills earrings, a Lovisa anklet and a flower crown from a Etsy shop called Miss Wild Flower.

Advice for couples...
Communicate with each other!
Also, spreadsheets and checklists help a lot with staying as organized as possible. Being without a wedding planner and doing a lot of DIY, lists helped keep us sane throughout the entire process.
