The Meeting...
We met for the first time at a local Irish bar, but our first date is the real story. It was a car crash- literally! We were hit by another car, but everyone was fine and it made for quite the memorable night.
Love...
I think when we realised that despite being such different people, we still have the same goals and ambitions in life.
The Proposal...
Dave knows my favourite number is four, so on the fourth of April he pretended to go to work early in the morning. A little while later I woke to find roses and our dog dressed in a little tux. Then I turned around to find Dave down on one knee.
Wedding Style...
I knew I wanted to incorporate the vintage theme into the day, with lots of neutral colours. For the reception space I always wanted the main colour to be white, because I think that look is so classic.
Wedding Ceremony & Reception Venue...
The ceremony was held at Topiaries at Beaumont in Samford. Topiaries is such an amazing venue, from the vintage reception space to the amazing grounds- you're never short of a great picture opportunity! The biggest plus for us, however, was the all-in-one nature of the venue. It meant that while we were having our photos taken, our guests were being entertained with drinks and canapés.
The Dress...
When it came to finding the all-important wedding dress, I went into the whole process with a very open mind. I ended up finding a gorgeous lace fit and flare gown from Belladonna that really complemented my vintage theme. It was a sweetheart cut with champagne underlay covered in ivory lace and I absolutely loved it.
Bridesmaids...
The bridesmaids wore beautiful chiffon and lace maxi dresses from Forever New in a neutral petal cream colour.
Groomsmen...
The groomsmen wore custom made bespoke suits from Tattersfield & Co. in charcoal grey.
The Flowers...
I wanted to pick classic flowers that would both stand out and also fit in with the theme of the day. I went with a combination of roses and white freesias amongst greenery, with white and off white roses in the bridal bouquet, and peach and white roses in the bridesmaids' bouquets.
Wedding Styling...
I absolutely love the classic vintage theme and was so excited to find a venue that catered for this so perfectly. For the table settings, my mantra was less is more, and allowed the amazing tiffany chairs and simple baby’s breath centrepieces to be the heroes. Everything was mostly white, with a hint of beige and gold on the place cards, table names etc.
On the Menu...
We had a sit down reception, with an alternate drop. For entrée they served pork belly and Atlantic salmon, and for dinner we had chicken breast wrapped in prosciutto with white wine sauce and eye fillet on sweet potato mash with mushroom sauce. Our wedding cake was served as dessert.
Wedding Favour...
All of the men received these amazing bottle openers that you click down on your beer and the cap pops right off. We bought these in Japan and then ordered little stickers with our name and wedding date to go on them. All the women were given a wine stopper and pourer set.
Wedding Photography...
I’ve always loved wedding photos that use natural light to create the effect, instead of using a lot of post-editing and unnatural colours. Lyndal Carmichael is just so talented at this type of photography and captured our day just exactly how I had hoped.
We also chose Callum Wheeler from Fine Goods Productions to be our videographer because of his intimate documentary style of filming.
Memories...
Just being surrounded by all our family and friends was incredibly special, as was that first moment seeing Dave when I walked down the aisle. I also loved walking down the aisle with my dad, which was such a nice memory that I'll have forever. On a funny note, Dave managed to split his pants before the ceremony, which thankfully was caught on camera and video and made for a lot of laughs!
Wedding Songs...
Down the Aisle: Thinking Out Loud – Ed Sheeran (performed by Dan Smith on the acoustic guitar)
First Dance: Tenerife Sea – Ed Sheeran
Bouquet Toss: Dear Future Husband - Meghan Trainer
Garter Toss: Sugar – Maroon 5
Leaving Song: XO - Beyonce
Honeymoon...
We honeymooned in Europe and began the holiday with a week relaxing in an amazing villa in Santorini. After that we went on what was probably a very unusual honeymoon, visiting Russia, Estonia, Poland and Turkey among others. It was so much fun going to such different places and sharing those experiences together.
