Modern Wedding: Tell us a little bit about yourself
Jess: Jess Ainsworth, Head Wedding Planner & Stylist, Popup With Style, I love a good green smoothie, some sunshine & ocean. I am a secret Quantum Physics nerd and lover of all things energy & the universe!
Modern Wedding: How did you get started as a stylist?
Jess: I originally got started as a stylist when I was working as a wedding planner and would take any opportunity to get creative with my clients and help them design something unique and special. This eventually turned my role into a planner/stylist and has seen myself (and the business) take the path of a multitasking planner/stylist/florist/professional table beautifier.
Modern Wedding: What colours and colour palette combinations do you love for next 12 months?
Jess: The colours and colour palette that I’m really looking forward to in the next 12 months is a moody eclectic pallet of deep merlot reds, magenta pinks, anything orange and a little splash of blue!
Modern Wedding: What are your favourite new styling trends for 2018/2019?
Jess: Style 1 – Minimalistic. I am loving the influx of brides who are willing to forego the standard table flowers and go with a contemporary table setting with a spectacular floral or backdrop install. Keeping the tables clean, simple & chic.
Style 2- Magical Woods. Strongly pushing any brides who describe a wedding with LOTS of greenery, to head towards a magical ‘woods’ themed wedding. Not to be confused with rustic… we are talking hanging lush greenery, simple elegant wood details, LOTS of beautiful lighting and some stick candle features.
Style 3 – European Eclectic – I am loving the styling coming out of Europe at the moment! Crockery with intricate patterned details, coloured candles lit at dusk on the side of a cliff, a colour palette of contrasting colours with a white wash throughout the entire wedding!
Modern Wedding: What are your five favourite styling elements to work with right now and why?
Jess: I am loving patterned metals, bright coloured weave linens, waratah flowers, ranunculus & olive leaf (not necessarily together haha)
Modern Wedding: What are your top 3 tips for brides wanting to create unique wedding style?
Jess: 1. Who are you? What type of person are you and how will your wedding reflect that? What is in your house? How is it styled?
2. You can never have too many details… feature crockery, unique place cards…. You really can’t go overboard with creating everything to suit your style and foregoing the stock-standard options!
3. Unique is not just in the styling but also in the planning and the experience that the guests have. Reflecting on who you are and what you want your day to represent… plan your wedding around that! Break the boundaries, create new traditions, get a bit crazy!
Modern Wedding: If you were designing your own wedding, how would you style it?
Jess: I would 100% go with my 3rd styling tip! I would draw so much inspiration from Europe and create an eclectic fiesta of a wedding! Deep reds, oranges, lush greenery and a pop of blue! Feature patterned plates, feature cutlery & intricate details at every corner.
