The events team at The Epping Club are experts in coordinating and creating perfect weddings. They speak with engaged couples every day and their experiences have taught them a thing or two about finding the right wedding reception venue so we asked the team to share their advice...
Some of us spend years planning our perfect wedding day; awaiting for 'that special day' to finally arrive. Now that he's proposed and you're engaged it's time to make those fairytale dreams a reality.
More often than not, couples' find that wedding planning begins with short- listing venues for the ceremony and reception. Although probably one of the toughest choices you will have to make, it is the one decision that will pave the way for the entire journey.
Before you start venue shopping, it's important for you, your fiancé and respective families to be on the same page. Discuss with one another, how many guests you are planning to invite, what time of the year you are planning to get married, who is paying for what, what kind of budget are you working with or is there a particular style you're after? Answering these questions will give you parameters to work within and will assist you and your fiancé in short listing the endless possibilities.
Once you have handpicked a select few, sit down and compare what's on offer. Don't always be fooled by what you see on paper. Instead, think of this as a great opportunity to enquire about what it is you cannot see. What other inclusions can the venue offer and are there any hidden costs involved? It's all about making an informed decision.
It can be so overwhelming planning your wedding that it's not unusual to forget the other elements that contribute to your fairytale wedding. Be mindful of the costs involved with decorating and styling your chosen venue. Are you starting from scratch, working with a blank canvas, or just enhancing and bringing colour to an already elegant space? Answers to these questions will help distinguish between the venues that keep within your budget and those that won't.
It's also important to keep on the back of your mind, your guests' movements on the day. Should you choose to have your ceremony and reception at two separate venues; consider the transition between the two events and the travelling distance between the venues; possibly posing as an inconvenience to your guests. Perhaps consider a venue that is centrally located or venues that are in close proximity of each other.
