Welcome to our new series on essential bridal beauty. Today we review the hot trends in makeup for Autumn/Winter 2011 from the fashion runways with M.A.C Cosmetics, and we show you how you can adapt them to real-life and make them wearable for your special day.
Trend One: Mod-ernist
This look is all about flawless skin, soft shiny lips, lots of lashes and a reworked sixties vibe. The makeup artists say this look is: "expensive hippies", "luxuriously moneyed, luxuriously honeyed".
Our translation? Modern. Light, sheer foundation, beige-toned eyeshadows, big eyelashes and glossy pink lips. This is a very natural, girly look. If you love to focus on the eyes, add some eyeliner in a cat's eye shape. Pretty and doll-like.
Trend Two: Discotheque
Makeup Artists are injecting some colour back into our lives with jewel-toned eye shadows and vibrant lips. The makeup artists say this look is: "flirting with something very decadent", "exploring a mannequin-like beauty".
Our translation? A Pop of Colour. Choose either eyes or lips and keep the rest of your makeup simple to avoid a clownish appearance. This look is very polished. Make sure you touch up every part of your face: eyebrows, skin, lips, eyes. Impeccable grooming plus a splash of colour.
Trend Three: Tough Love
There is often a trend towards androgenous makeup somewhere on the runways, this season it was both the bare-faced boy/girl look, as well as a hard-edged focus on one element on the face, either a super-smoky eye, a sharply contoured brow or a deep matte lip. The makeup artists say this look is: "80% glamorous, 20% spooky", "an attitude of raw sexiness", "that one punch of attitude on the face".
Our translation? Bold & Beautiful. Skin is flawless with either a bold lip or eye. A dramatic smokey eye or a beautiful strong red lip makes a statement of confidence and glamour. Bold bridal beauty.
Trend Four: Amber-Gris
Browns, bronzes and warm beiges are back in a big way. This look is all about colours that are naturally present in the skin already, and using the same palette (and even the same colour) for eyes, lips and cheeks. Makeup artists say this look is: "a new take on monochrome", "rubbed on" and "purposefully imperfect".
Our translation? New Romantic. One step up from 'natural' makeup, think done, but not overdone. Makeup looks lived in, but perfect, it's the "I'm beautiful without trying" look. Use similar shades for eyes, cheeks and lips. The new nude.
One of the most beautiful, but for some reason scary, trends this season is the stunning matte red lip. Scary because it's unusual and so bold, and although it's not difficult to achieve at all, many don't know how to get the look. We asked M.A.C Cosmetics Senior Artist Nicole Thompson to show us how!

The finishing touch? A little bit of matte gloss...
