Q1. I know I want my wedding to stand out from the crowd but I have no idea where to start.
The easiest way to start is to look around your everyday life. What is important to you as a couple? Do you have a lucky or special place or colour? Are you the type of couple to visit the newest bars in town or do you prefer romantic meals at home? All these things can contribute to the theme of your wedding and therefore how to decorate it. Grab Modern Wedding magazine, check out the gallery and jot down some basic ideas together with your man.
Q2. We both have very busy lives and don't have time to create the kind of ambience we'd like at our wedding. What shall we do?
There is help at hand! Hire yourself a wedding decorator. These talented people design and decorate themes for weddings all year round and have a plethora of ideas to suggest. They can also source unusual items that you might not have been able to get. Find them on the web or in wedding magazines or ask around for recommendations. Your imagination really is the limit with a wedding decorator so go armed with a few of your own ideas for starters.
Q3. I want to create a black and white theme but we're having our reception in a hotel. They have their own wedding coordinator - can I still have my dream theme?
Hopefully the answer to this question will be yes. However, as the venue has a dedicated wedding coordinator, check with them. Take with you some samples and ideas so they can visualise your concept and if you have a specific wedding coordinator in mind ask if they can be involved in setting up your room. Normally, top end hotels will do everything they can to accommodate your wishes.
Q4. I know what kind of theme I would like but where can I source my decorations?
This will depend on where you are having your wedding reception. If you're having it at a hotel, RSL or golf club the chances are they will have a dedicated wedding coordinator who will be able to source most of it for you. If you're having your wedding on your family property in the bush, you can hire a wedding coordinator or check out Etsy where you can get your hands on loads of fancy items.
Q5. My husband-to-be and I are Star Wars tragics and would really like to incorporate this into our wedding day. Is there any way of doing this without it being tacky?
Sadly I fear the answer to this one is no! However, why not limit your Star Wars theme to a few chosen points in your wedding. Try to persuade your beloved NOT to dress up as Darth Vader for the ceremony but instead get creative with your cake. Top quality cake designers can create just about anything, so chat to yours and see what you can come up with. Have something Star Wars related, and fun, for your bomboniere or do your bridal waltz to some Star Wars music and surprise your guests!
