When planning your wedding, it's only natural to ask for opinions and advice from those who have been through it before. Here at Modern Wedding, we have a whole team of wedding experts who have been through it all. Check out the wedding tips that the MW team wish they knew before getting married!
It's Your Day...
"The one tip I would give any bride is to not worry about the guest mix too much. I really agonised over people coming who had broken up or gotten divorced or didn't get along...or were simply vastly different, e.g. conservative aunty meets pot-smoking hippy. People sort themselves out and it really is just a wonderful celebration of being in love. Forget everything else."
Far From Perfect...
"Chances are something will go wrong on the big day. Don't let it get to you. In the grand scheme of things, it's not a big deal. Most of the time it makes for a great story. Also make sure you have a good group of people to help you out on the day so that you can delegate and enjoy yourself"
Quote Queries...
"Make sure you check what is included in the quote from your venue. i.e. tablecloths and what colour, centrepieces, AV equipment, dance floor etc. Get all quotes itemised and in writing."
Plan Ahead...
"Don't be like me and not plan a speech thinking that you won't want to say anything formal on the day. In the moment, I grabbed the mic and blurted out a mass of random things and stories. All the guests thought it was entertaining but I regretted it for days!"
The Sugar High...
"Have red frogs! They are good for a sugar hit just before you get out of the car for the ceremony. They are great for the flower girls as well. It will help wake them up and it works for the bride too!"
The Clean Up...
Guest List Worries...
"Invite people that will be with you throughout your life. Don't focus on the friends that are socially correct to invite at the time."
Roll With It...
"I tell anyone who is getting married to try and take everything in as the day rolls along. Stop and really enjoy what you are experiencing and not worry about the running of the event. The day goes very fast! So much time is spent on the planning so you want to be able to enjoy every bit of it."
The Wedding Planner...
"Appoint a friend or someone who has their finger on the pulse to be the 'event coordinator' for the day. It's not to overload them with jobs but to casually oversee that what you have planned is executed by the venue, suppliers etc."
