When planning a wedding, there will always be little details that you don't realise you didn't know about until you're faced with them! We've rounded up the wedding dos and don'ts that brides-to-be often don't know about to prepare you for every situation.
Fancy Footwear...
A big do that a lot of future brides don't consider is to practice walking in your wedding shoes! There's nothing worse than planning the wedding of your dreams and 20 minutes in you get a killer blister from your new shoes. Try doing a few chores around the house in your wedding footwear to get a feel for your shoes and break them in before the big day.
Clear Expectations...
Definitely do be upfront with all your wedding vendors about your exact expectations for the big day. Many brides fear they'll come across as pushy with photographers and florists so they don't clearly outline how they want their day to look and can end up disappointed with the end result. Make sure to tell your DJ all of the songs you definitely want to hear played on the night as well as the songs you definitely don't want! Also, don't be afraid to give your photographer a list of all the "must take moments" so that your wedding photos capture everything.
Take A Seat...
Do spend time thoughtfully planning our your seating map. Putting older guests right next to the band or speakers might make it hard for them to hear the conversation going on around them. Also, you want to make sure that each table is filled with people who get along so there won't be any awkward tension that ruins the night. So, be sure to put a decent amount of time aside to get your seating plan just right.
Watch Those Costs...
Do remember to keep track of your budget over the course of planning your wedding! With all the expenses building up, it can be easy to get carried away with luxurious cakes and 5 star invitations and before you know it, you've gone over budget. Keeping track of your wedding expenses can be challenging but it's absolutely essential! Try using a wedding budget calculator to stay on top of your costs and avoid over-spending.
One Woman Show...
So, what are the don'ts that brides-to-be often overlook? Don't try to be a super bride! We completely understand that you have a very specific wedding vision that you've been dreaming of since you were a little girl and you want every aspect to be perfect. But trying to do everything yourself will have you burnt out before the big day even arrives! Your loved ones want to help so do yourself a favour and call in your bridesmaids and your family to lighten your wedding workload.
Snack Attack...
This might sound a little silly and even obvious, but don't forget to eat throughout your wedding day! With all the adrenaline and excitement that comes along with a wedding, it can be easy to forget about the little things like drinking plenty of water and eating when you can. You don't want to feel woozy or have the champagne bubbles go straight to your head so make sure to set aside time to have some nibbles throughout the day.
Time's Up...
Don't be scared to give your wedding speakers a suggested time limit for their toasts. Speakers getting carried away with anecdotes and dad jokes for way too long is a tale as old as time and will make your wedding feel more like a presentation than a party. Five minutes is generally a good time frame to give all the speech givers and your guests will definitely thank you for it!
Have Fun...
Most importantly, don't forget to enjoy yourself! Once the big day arrives, you've done everything you can to make your wedding a success so don't sweat the small stuff that might not go to plan. The things that feel like a big deal at the time will soon become funny anecdotes so don't get hung up on all the little details. Just have fun!
