The year end is closing in, many of you are getting married next year, all of a sudden we will be in 2012 - the year of your wedding! Has the reception been planned? Invites gone out? Theme decided on??? Don't get stressed, just breathe. We have called in the experts and asked how to make sure planning your wedding reception is a breeze.
The wedding experts at the Park Hyatt Sydney share the secrets on how to plan a seamless reception.
" Size it up. Who will be privy to your big day? Is this going to be a production to rival the Royal Wedding, or an intimate affair for your closest loved ones? If inviting your closest family and friends means the guest list swells to 500 people, then the cull may be that much harder.
At some point you will have to draw a line, and the figure you arrive at will determine the venue that can accommodate your reception. Be firm with your decision, and remember that every venue has a maximum capacity.
Location, Location, Location. Where will your perfect reception take place? Local or overseas? On land or sea? There is a plethora of options - from castles to wineries, hotels to beachfronts and harbor fronts, and everything in between. If you have guests coming from interstate or overseas, you will no doubt want to show off your chosen city. In Sydney, we have some of the world's most stunning waterfront locations - you may like a venue that makes the most of them.
Money matters. First and foremost, your wedding is going to come down to what your budget will allow, and the reception forms the largest portion of this budget. Whilst every bride loves to dream (and why shouldn't they?), all couples need to carefully match their expectations with their ability to foot the bill.
Our suggestion would be to work from a top-down perspective to calculate your total allowable budget before choosing the venue. If you are realistic about your finances then you will be able to pick the perfect venue without breaking the bank.
Forewarned is forearmed. Make sure that from the outset you are asking all the right questions of your venue. And always get the venue to put everything in writing, so you're left with no surprises on your wedding day. Go over the contract with a fine-toothed comb and ask all questions before signing on the dotted line.
Already-married friends can offer a wealth of information here, and you can learn from their experiences (or mistakes). Remember, that a 10-piece jazz ensemble you've set your heart on is off limits if the venue specifies a limit on band size."
