Today's inspiration shoot comes with a message... A request, of sorts. Not only is it beautiful, it is heartfelt. The fresh pastel flowers and playfully styled fruit and candy buffet are made all the more fun by the presence of smiles, laughter and tree climbing.
"Remember the 1991 movie My Girl?" asks Lina Bteddini, Stylist and the driving creative force behind this shoot. "It was all about the unbreakable friendship between a young boy and girl. The idea inspired me to create a shoot along the same lines, but of course, with brides and grooms in miniature." Lina wanted to capture the sweet, precious moments that can be created by including children in your wedding. And she echoes something I have heard from many a bride... "Sometimes the most magical moments on the day are those that aren't planned."
I love the lightness and laughter behind this shoot. The crayon-like colours, the feeling that almost everything is in miniature, even though it's not, the kitschy tea set and overwhelming sense of fun. Lina's essential décor elements were fresh floral wreaths, candy, cupcakes, the beautiful homestead and gorgeous kid's suits and gowns.
And her hope in sharing the shoot with brides-to-be? Something she is very passionate about. "I'd love to open brides up to the idea of inviting kids to their weddings. I have my own children, and having to explain to them why they haven't been invited to their favourite Aunt's wedding is quite heartbreaking, especially when they adore her!" Of course she does understand that many venues are not child-friendly, and that inviting children can increase the price of the wedding quite considerably. "Of course I'm not suggesting that couples invite the whole fifty-odd kids in the extended family... not at all! I just ask that each couple do what is right for them. And if you do choose to invite a few special kids in the family to your wedding, teach them how to behave suitably on the day." Lina suggests that couples consider including them in special roles: perhaps as a flowergirl or page boy. And explain to them that they have an important role to play. "Treat them like adults and most children will act that way!"
