It's an issue that engaged couples couldn't have seen coming. Many questions have been asked; Do we cancel? Do we postpone it? What's the right thing to do? We have broken down what we know about COVID-19 and how this might affect your wedding so that we can support you at this difficult time.
Covid-19...
This is an unpredictable and evolving situation, but it is safe to say that there will be an impact on our beautiful industry. We would like to start by saying that we are not medical professionals, and the only thing we can really do is offer advice and assistance. We can see that people are suffering and we want to do our part to help. The Modern Wedding office has taken precautions to ensure our safety, but we are still very much online and here for all your wedding needs!
The Risks...
In this case, weddings tend to hold two major risks...the number of people attending, and the age bracket they are in. An average wedding holds 120 people, meaning that a majority of weddings will reach over the 100 people ban currently in place. Others will still reach over the 500 people ban as well. The other worry is the elderly relatives and children that are involved. When making any decisions about your wedding, keep these people in mind. They are higher risk and the health of you and your loved ones are the priority. Social distancing is also very difficult to achieve at a wedding, a practice that we should all be following!
Destination Weddings...
If you are in a position where you are yet to book anything, then hold off - just for now! Once there is a little bit more certainty about the situation, then you will able to book with no panic at all. The logistics of whether or not your overseas wedding can go ahead is very dependent on flights and quarantine procedures when going to another country. The logistics of travelling are incredibly difficult at this time, meaning that postponing any destination wedding is the best option. If you are getting married overseas at any point over the next three to six months, we would suggest talking to your suppliers about changing the wedding date. It's better to look into this option now than closer to the date!
Postpone, Don't Cancel...
The wedding industry, like all other industries, will take a hit from this pandemic. If your current wedding dates can't go ahead, then postpone, don't cancel. Businesses, both large and small, will be struggling during this time. Stick with your preferred vendors and discuss postponing your wedding date, rather than canceling altogether. This will most likely save you money as well and it will mean helping those vendors in a financially tricky time.
Talk To Your Suppliers...
There's no doubt that everyone is being impacted by this virus in one way or another. The most important thing right now is communication. Your vendors want to see you get married, and will do whatever they can to help you. Chances are, they have put particular processes and procedures into place to help anyone in a different situation. Get in touch ASAP and be as understanding as you can. We understand that the idea of postponing your wedding can be distressing, but this is also outside of a vendor's control.
