Katie and Aaron, both competitive ballroom dancers, were partnered up by their teacher because of their ideal height difference and "nice" look together, but it was more than height that made this couple a perfect match. After 6 months training together they became a couple off the floor as well as on. Katie describes falling in love with Aaron with a quote from Oscar Wilde: "You don't love someone for their looks, or their clothes, or for their fancy car, but because they sing a song only you can hear."
After months of deliberation Aaron organised a Christmas day proposal. 'On Christmas morning, I woke up to a gift of glitter paint, stickers and brushes,' recalls Katie. 'Aaron had created his own 'dot to dot' activity for me to complete, which also included an encoded message. The 'dot to dot' was a diamond ring (the glitter paint was for the diamond). The message said "MARRY ME KATIE". I started to shake when I got to the end of "ME". Aaron came over and said "Well? Will you marry me?" I said "of course". '
The couple decided on a wedding date in early November with a classic theme. They married in front of eighty close friends and family at Montsalvat in Eltham followed by a celebration at The Wattle Park Chalet. Katie wore a gown in dark ivory lave with a full beaded bodice and log trailing veil from Raffaele Ciuca. She was accompanied by her bridesmaids in long peach gowns. 'Everyone said they looked like Greek goddesses,' says Katie. The elegant bride carried a round bouquet of David Austin roses and freesias created by florist Debbie O'neill. 'I felt the David Austin roses really matched the colour of my dress,' says Katie. Debbie O'neill created bouquets for the bridesmaids using pink and peach lisianthus and freesias and at the reception she designed a beautifully simple collection of fresh flowers in jars.
The couple's bridal waltz to Christina Perri's A Thousand Years stirred the emotions of guests and remains an extra special memory for Katie and Aaron. Photographer, Andrew Noble captured all the precious moments, 'Andrew made us feel so calm and all our photos turned out so natural looking,' says Katie. Katie and Aaron are now living in their recently renovated house and chose to re-do their bathroom in lieu of a honeymoon, 'we will do it [honeymoon] soon though,' says the couple.
