Aside from the big day, there are a bunch of events leading up to your wedding that may involve a drink or two. An engagement party, a bridal shower, hen’s night, rehearsal dinner and pre-reception drinks... just to name a few!
What should I serve?
The wines you choose to serve will depend largely on what kind of wedding you’re having. Ice buckets full of crisp dry whites are ideal for a summer beach wedding, whereas a winter country retreat suits rich, warming reds. When choosing, it’s helpful to know what regions and varieties create the best wines. Whatever the style of wedding, Sparkling wine is a must-have.
How much is enough?
Every wedding is different, but a good rule of thumb is to cater for half a bottle per person. Having too much is better than not having enough – you can always cellar the extras for a later date.
Keeping it simple is key here. Match lighter foods with lighter wines, and richer foods with more robust wines. A good Sav Blanc and Chardonnay will match most menus brilliantly, whilst red lovers will enjoy a Shiraz, Cabernet or Pinot Noir.
