Elizabeth and Glenn's art deco wedding channeled glamorous Gatsby vibes for a celebration that was filled with storybook romance. Their luxurious day perfectly captured old school glamour and 1920's art deco in an elegant tribute to one of the very best party eras.
For The Love Of Fashion...
Elizabeth and Glenn's love story had always featured an element of glamour with the couple meeting while they both worked in the fashion industry. Glenn had just started a fashion label while Elizabeth worked for a textile supplier. "He used to come in to purchase fabrics from me and well, the rest is history," recalls Elizabeth. The couple then teamed up to work together and that's when they both knew they had found something special. "We spent long days together all the time and never got tired of each other's company, so it really just all made sense," shares Elizabeth.
A Romantic Gesture...
The couple also have a swoon-worthy proposal story that took place during a surprise weekend getaway which was planned by Glenn. "We took off in a helicopter and landed on a private island named Elizabeth Island," laughs Elizabeth. Glenn got down on one knee on the island's pier and Elizabeth, of course, said yes!
Mr Gatsby...
The couple decided on a wedding theme very early on in the process as they always knew they wanted to have an iconic Melbourne wedding. "We wanted to have the ultimate black-tie, art-deco-come-Gatsby inspired celebration," shares Elizabeth. Glenn and his five groomsmen totally nailed the brief with their classic black tuxedos, patent black leather shoes, and black bow-ties.
Flapper Girls...
Elizabeth's bridesmaids looked glamorous in white floor-length gowns from Elle Zeitoune. The strapless origami styled bodices were perfectly complemented by an elegant leg split and train to create a classic sophisticated look. The bridal party's looks were accessorised with emerald drop earrings and white rose bouquets.
Mrs Gatsby...
The breathtaking wedding gown that Elizabeth wore was inspired by Grace Kelly's iconic wedding dress and her own childhood memories of her Aunty Helen's bridal gown. To achieve her vision, Elizabeth collaborated with Josephine from Romeo Bastone Couture to create the perfect custom gown. The long sleeve form-fitting gown featured sheer sleeves covered in silk floral appliqué creating a look that exuded classic elegance and mid-century glamour. The look was complemented with a full tulle overskirt with a standout cathedral train which was made out of over 110 meters of tulle! Now that's what we call extreme glamour.
Burning Love...
Elizabeth travelled in total style to the wedding venue, The Scots' Church in Melbourne CBD! Along with her dad, she rolled up to the church in an old school Cadillac after spending the whole drive listening to Elvis. The day was captured by APL Photography who the couple fell in love with after seeing the way the photographer captured love and glamour. "APL did a wonderful job of capturing the essence of the day, the mood and what we were feeling," says Elizabeth.
Back In Time...
After the romantic ceremony, the guests were transported back to the 1920's by the old world glamour reception, held in the La Trobe Reading Room in the State Library of Victoria. "The superb La Trobe Reading Room exuded grandeur and elegance which ticked all the boxes for us", says Elizabeth. The couple were the very first people to hold their wedding reception at the venue so they took their time and planned the event extensively to make sure it was one of a kind.
Roaring 20's...
The colour scheme for the reception venue was classic white and gold with art deco accents. The elegant table settings featured crystal glassware, touches of gold and pure white floral arrangements. Every little detail was accounted for in the decor of the venue. Ivory menu and name cards featured gold foil art deco accents to complement the perfectly fitting wedding favours: The Great Gatsby and Tales Of The Jazz Age books.
Too Pretty To Eat...
Elizabeth and Glenn had a spectacular 5 tiered hexagonal cake created by Valley Designer Cakes. The cake perfectly fit the art deco theme of the evening with a gold fan pattern, ivory-toned appliqué, pearls, and florals. "We kept the flavour simple and decided on a lemon buttercream white chocolate mud cake which was an excellent crowd pleaser!" says Elizabeth.
The Perfect Soundtrack...
The whole evening was accompanied by the most fitting wedding soundtrack. This featured a live jazz band to set the 1920's Gatsby mood, a harpist who played Lana Del Rey's Young And Beautiful from The Great Gatsby movie soundtrack and a DJ who played all the best 70's disco and 80's club classics! Elizabeth and Glenn's wedding reception truly was the party of the decade.
From Gatsby To France...
The magic didn't stop after the final song played though! After the wedding, Elizabeth and Glenn jetted off to the French Riviera for a romantic, French honeymoon. They began their journey in Monaco, then travelled down the coast through Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Cannes and Saint-Tropez, taking in the culture, architecture and history of France. This magical honeymoon gave them a chance to reflect on their glamorous Gatsby wedding day and start making new memories together as husband and wife.
