Ask the wedding doctor

  • being a bridesmaid and don't like the dress the bride has chosen. She hasn't ordered it yet - should i tell her or just live with it!!
  • The bridesmaid's dress is often a touchy subject. How much say do I have? None. Do I have to pay? Yes. Can I refuse to wear it? No.

You must remember that this is your good friend getting married and she needs all your love and support to plan this momentous occasion in her life. She will forever remember this day and the people she shared it with. It would be a shame to taint her memories with tension about something so trivial as an outfit.

This is her day, where she gets to make the decisions - so, as I can sympathise with your situation, the best way to handle it is to flash a big smile when you see the dress and say you love it, she has made an excellent choice.

If you are made to wear something really horrid, one option is to hide as much of the dress as possible and buy a shawl to wrap around yourself. After a couple of wines, you may not even mind what you're wearing.
