There is no straight answer to your question unfortunately. You do have the right to invite whoever you want, and not invite whoever you don’t want, however you need to ask yourself a couple of questions:
1. Who is paying for your wedding? If your mother is contributing to the wedding then you should definitely invite her husband.
2. ‘Is the stress of not inviting him worth not having him at the wedding?’ Would you be setting yourself up for a feud with your mother and at what cost? It may, in the end, be worth just ginning and bearing it, for your mother’s sake. You can be assured that on the day you will be so busy and there will be a million things to distract you.
However if you really feel strongly about not having this person at your wedding, maybe you could have a quiet word to your mother and talk it over with her amicably.
The last thing you need is to be stressed before your big day – so do what will least affect you.
