Ask the wedding doctor

  • Should you propose with the ring or buy it together later?
  • Proposing with the ring in your pocket is one of the most romantic gestures you can think of. But stop for a moment and think before you do it. If you can be really certain the ring you choose will be the one she adores, then go for it.
There’s also real romance in proposing first then designing the ring together later. This could be at your family jewellers and could incorporate some other jewellery such as a grandparent’s engagement ring to give it some real history intertwined with a modern design.

If you don’t want to propose empty handed, then why not give her a ring box with a loose diamond in it to be fashioned into a ring together at a later date?

There are pluses and minuses for proposing both with and without a ring but the ideas above should help you decide which is best for you.
