Picking a wedding date and sticking to it can sometimes be a difficult task. It may seem like everyone you check the date with has an issue with it. Your best friend has a 30th to go to and your Auntie’s going overseas the day before. There will always be problems, so the key is to take into consideration as much as you can then pick a date that suits you and your partner and forget the rest, you will be surprised at how easily they can change their plans to suit you.

Questions to ask yourself before settling on a date

  • How much time will I need to organise the wedding?
  • Do any loved ones have conflicting graduation, pregnancy due date, big birthdays?
  • Are there any big sporting games or events that draw large crowds on?
  • When is your chosen venue available?
  • When are the peak holiday seasons that might interfere with out of town guests finding accommodation?

Other dates to avoid

Some of these dates differ from state to state.

  • New Year’s Day
  • Australia Day
  • Chinese New Year
  • Anzac Day
  • Easter Holidays
  • St Patricks Day
  • Labour Day
  • Queens Birthday
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day
  • Boxing Day

Once you've picked the date, stick to it and let everyone organise themselves around it. The First step is to look for a venue, if you haven’t already, then login and go to your wedding checklist (in Planning Tools) for a to-do list of what to do when.
