No matter how natural or glamorous you want your hair looking, a hair stylist can create a style that you could only dream of. Getting the right stylist is an essential ingredient when it comes to your big day, so here are a few hot tips to ask before you book your appointment.

Where?

Many hair stylists have moveable salons and can meet you in your home on the day. Be sure to check this, as you will have to factor in travel time if you are going out to the hairdressers, or prepare a space if they are coming to you.

Trial run?

You will definitely want to talk with your prospective stylist about this, and schedule it in around one month in advance, as your hair won’t grow too much after. Ask for them to use the same products, just to ensure you know what you are getting, and that no allergies are in store.

Colour?

If you colour your hair, it’s a must to discuss this when you are selecting possible hairstyles. Your stylist will be able to suggest what will best work with your hair, though you can always feel free to refresh your colour before the wedding (however you should do it at least 2 weeks before in case you are unhappy with the job).

Hair-do maintenance?

Be sure to check with your stylist what to do if any strands escape from your beautiful 'do during the wedding. It may just be a handful of pins to rescue your locks after a dance, or a pocket hairspray for other styles.

How long?

We are in favour of allowing plenty of time for styling. A rushed hair stylist may not produc e the desired ef fect, so ask how long they normally take and check it in your practice run.

Hair condition?

Allow your stylist to instruct what condition hair they would like to work with, as different styles require squeaky clean, while others don’t. It’s a good idea to check this so you can help your stylist create the wow-factor style you are dreaming of.

Travel charge?

If your stylist is coming to your home, they may wish to be reimbursed for time and travel expenses starting from when they leave home.

Make-up?

Discuss your make-up schedule with your hair stylist, as they may wish to be first on the list. However, most stylists are happy to work after your make-up has been done – just allow yourself to be guided by the professionals and it will all fall into place.

Deposit?

It is not overly common to pay a deposit, however your stylist may ask for one to secure the booking. If you trust your stylist with your hair, we hope you feel you can trust them with a little cash!

Cost?

Be sure to confirm prices and how they wish to be paid well in advance. It’s always a good idea for you to know exactly how much you will be paying and to be prepared in case they require cash.
