Wildfire Publishing DIY ring bearer's pillow
Traditionally used to carry the coronation crown for royalty, the ring pillow has become the accepted way to present the wedding rings. These days it is the role of the pageboy to carry the ring bearer’s pillow. He walks in front of or beside the flower girl followed by the bride. This elegant lace and pearl cushion is just the right size for the pageboy’s small hands.
Material
- 30cm of lace or textured fabric
- 30cm of silk or taffeta
- 50cms of thin satin ribbon
- 1 packet 5mm pearls
- craft glue
- fibre fill
How to create
- Cut two 23cm squares from silk fabric and one 23cm square from lace fabric.
- Place the wrong side of the lace fabric on the right side of one of the squares of silk fabric. Using a large tacking stitch sew them together. This will help hold layers in place when sewing cushion layers together. You should now have two squares of fabric.
- Pin the two 23cm squares to each other with the right sides together leaving a 6cm gap on one side so the pillow can be bagged out.
- Turn pillow inside out and stuff with fibre fill. Don’t stuff pillow too firmly as it will become round.
- Slip stitch as neatly as possible the opening left on the side of the pillow.
- Glue pearls in the centre of each lace rosette.
- Attach the thin satin ribbon for the rings to the centre of the pillow. Once attached securely, push needle through to the other side and sew an extra piece of ribbon in the shape of a loop for the pageboy to slip his hand through.
- Remove tacking.
