Q1. How big will we need our cake to be?

The size of your cake will depend on a number of factors:
-    How many guests are you inviting to the reception?
-    Are you serving your cake as dessert or wrapping it up for guests to take home?
-    Will you be preserving the top tier of your cake for tradition’s sake?
Most cake designers are experienced in determining how much cake you will need.

Q2. Can our wedding cake be served as dessert?

The short answer is yes. It is now very common to serve your wedding cake as a dessert, especially as you can order your cake in whichever flavour you like – from Jaffa to cheesecake. Talk with your cake designer and even organise a tasting of the different flavours they have on offer.

Q3. When should we order our cake?

Order your cake at least 12 to 16 weeks prior to the wedding. This will allow your cake maker to create a masterpiece. If you are ordering a plain cake and having fresh flowers put on, you may be able to organise the cake later – check with your chosen baker first.

Q4. I want fresh flowers on my cake – what are my options?

This is actually the less expensive way to decorate your cake. It cuts out the labour involved in creating iced flowers, without jeopardising the cakes beauty.
Have your florist organise the same flowers as in your bouquet or your bridesmaids bouquets to create incorporate your wedding theme.

Q5. When should we cut the cake?

The cutting of the cake is traditionally done after the main meals. If you are a stickler for tradition the groom will place his hand over the bride’s as they cut the cake together. The couple may cut a slice and eat it in front of their guests as a sign of luck and fertility.
