Petra & Grant

Grant organised for two close friends to surprise me on my birthday – they took me on a helicopter joyride saying, “This is your birthday present from us.” I was over the moon! I wasn't told where we were going, we flew south and ended up over Bulli pass. Suddenly we flew down over this restaurant on the cliffs and the pilot said, “What’s that on the grass?” I looked down and there was Grant standing next to a sign that said “Petra will you marry me?” We landed and Grant had a ring ready for me, which fitted perfectly. He had all our friends and families waiting in the restaurant, and had even flown his Mum and Dad over from New Zealand! So we had our engagement party right there…

Gill & Regan

We were in London visiting my family for Christmas and we‘d decided to go to the Ritz Hotel for high tea, for something different. I wasn't in the mood, but Reg insisted. When we got there, morning tea was off but we decided to go in and have a drink anyway. We bought some champagne and were sipping away and had almost got to the end of the bottle when Regan pulled out a ring box and launched into a heartfelt speech, which ended in his proposal. I was absolutely astounded and had to keep asking if he meant it! But I quickly realised he was serious and accepted!

Lisa & Adam

We were living in London at the time, and Adam surprised with a weekend in Paris for my birthday. A proposal didn’t even enter my mind. He organised a five star dinner on a glass boat, which travelled along the River Seine. He popped the question down on one knee whilst a violinist stood by our table. Of course I said yes! He presented me with a diamond so I could have my own ring made. Two ladies on the table behind were screaming with excitement and bought us a bottle of French Champagne to celebrate.

Chantal & Raymond

On the 4th August 2005, Raymond and I had been together for 4 1/2 years. That morning he asked me to get ready because he'd organised for us to meet up with some of our friends at Bondi. Upon arriving, Raymond suggested we go for a walk to the lookout (a place of significance for us) because we were early. It was pretty cold and windy though, so I wasn't keen to get out of the car. Eventually Raymond convinced me to go and gave me his warm jumper to wear. It was there at the lookout that Raymond got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I accepted immediately, and we laughed at how I'd had no idea that our outing was a set-up, and I'd almost ruined his plans by refusing to get out of the car! That night Raymond presented me with two tickets for us to spend 10 nights on the P & O cruise, 'Pacific Sun,' to celebrate our engagement.

Hayley & Tony

Tony and I were on holidays in New Zealand. We were travelling around the South Island and the scenery is so spectacular. On our way to Mount Cook we stopped to take in the view overlooking Lake Pukaki and Mount Cook. Tony said that he wanted to get his phone so he could take a photo with it. So he raced back to the car to get it while I continued to take photos with our camera. Tony came back to where I was and said "Isn't this the most beautiful view you have ever seen?" I replied, "Yes" and then he said " I want to ask you something - Will you marry me?" And he presented the ring to me. I was a complete blubbering mess - that I forgot to say yes but I finally pulled myself together to say yes to him.

Kristy & Tony

Tony made up a story about his parents being in town and meeting up them for dinner. Casually he told me to pack a bag to stay overnight and off we set to meet his parents or so I thought! He pulled up at a park near Lavender Bay overlooking the Harbour Bridge and Opera House, and set up a little picnic - not uncommon for him. We sat for a minute taking in the glorious weather and view, when he reached into his bag and proposed! It was so unexpected and beautiful! Tony had organised for us to stay at the Shangri La, where we had cocktails as the sun set and had a beautiful dinner.

Emma & Michael

I was very impressed that he managed to surprise me. We were away for the weekend in a beautiful house overlooking the Port Macquarie hinterland, but it was a last-minute and I'd been the one to book the trip, so I wasn't expecting anything. My husband hid the ring in my dessert (in a box, wrapped up in plastic, at the bottom of a bowl of strawberries). That part was funny more than romantic, but he got the rest of it right. He was genuinely emotional and said some beautiful things about why he wanted me to be his wife. It was the emotion that got me. He even shed a bit of a tear, which I'd only seen once before. I liked the fact that he took the proposal so seriously because it demonstrated to me that he took marriage (and a life with me) seriously. He even got down on one knee and he'd phoned my father an hour or so beforehand to ask permission.
