How you met

We met through friends & were mates for a couple of years before we got together

The proposal

At Nusa Lembongan in Indonesia. Steve hand made a wooden box with sand in it & had engraved a skull signet ring that I have always loved of his. He wanted some help with the real engagement ring

Planning the wedding

I loved planning the wedding. Due to it being a Mexican theme I could get creative. It only took 6 months to organise with some amazing girlfriends & family help.

The wedding dress

My dress was by Essense, from Fashion by Farina. The dress went well with the wedding theme having layers of ruffles & frills. The dress cost $2300 on the day as they were releasing the next summer dresses. If you purchased on the day you received a discount.

The bridesmaid’s attire

The bridesmaids dresses were all bought online between $30-50 each. The girls then made had the dresses altered to what best suited them.

The groom’s attire

My partner bought the boys outfits from SABA. They all wore grey pants and black shirts. Steve added a vest and tie.

The wedding theme

The theme was Mexican/ fiesta – We wanted something that was completely different and very relaxed, fun atmosphere with a lot of colour and life. For the ceremony I had girlfriends decorate the church with sunflowers and colourful paper flowers. We had one of our close friends marry us, which was very special. We wrote our own vows, it was very personal.

I had plenty of small details in all the decorations that gave our wedding ‘our own personal touch’. Tese details were not too harsh on the budget– from glass bowls of tattoo transfers that I had made up so the guests could get inked for the night (tattoos are something that is part of our lives) to family and friends making a smorgasbord of desserts. I had a laminated card for each dessert saying what the dessert was and ‘made with love by’, each guest received maracas for their bombonieres. I cut costs by having lemons and limes in baskets on the tables, I bought paper flowers instead of real ones for decorations. Music is a love of mine so I had no trouble making a playlist on my Ipod for the ceremony, during the dinner and a party mix for the dance floor.

When guests arrived we had corn chips and salsa/guacamole bowls around the marquee. For dinner we had fajitas.

On our wedding night we camped with the guests and then headed into the city for a romantic night.

The wedding cake

My sister in-law Clare made a Tiramisu wedding cake and skull piñata which we had instead of cutting the cake. We had a cake topper on our Tiramisu which were bride and groom skeletons (Day of the dead cake toppers which means forever).

The wedding flowers

The flowers were bright and beautiful. The girls had sunflowers and I had a decoration of yellow flowers to go with the theme. The colours looked amazing in all the photos. The flowers were done by Em’s Flowers – Wedding and Function Flowers.

Transport

Our wedding cars were Kombi’s. Steve and I have a Kombi Ute which we left the church in and the bridal party went in the other one.

Honeymoon

For our honeymoon we went to Mexico and volunteered for one week to build houses for the community with Habbitat for Humanity. We thought it would be a great way to start our marriage, building the foundation of someone else’s future as we start our marriage. We then had one more week in Mexico to chill out. Then off to Las Vegas and LA Homewood bound.
