November 2008
Proposal
Growing up in Sydney, Hayley and Anthony lived only 15 minutes from each other. It wasn’t until years later, while they were both living in London, that they eventually met at a New Year’s Eve party. More than five years later at the end of a tour through France, Anthony proposed in Paris at the top of the Eiffel Tower.
Ceremony
During the traditional ceremony Hayley recalls: “I remember walking down the aisle and seeing how nervous and emotional Anthony was and this made me feel the same. Our nerves calmed down when Anthony, repeating the celebrant’s words, got them completely wrong saying, ‘I will pleasure’ instead of ‘I pledge to honour’. This made everyone burst into laughter. Towards the end of the ceremony we toasted each other with Tattinger champagne which we thought was appropriate as we were in the Hunter Valley and Anthony is a wine maker.”
Reception
Hayley’s gold, organza and French lace gown beautifully reflected the vintage ambience of the Cask Hall, Hope Estate. Chandeliers and candles filled the room and candelabras stood tall on long tables filled with white hydrangeas and peonies, all contributing to the warm, romantic atmosphere. Instead of the normal wedding cake, five rounds of Australia’s best cheeses were selected and presented in a tiered arrangement, decorated by raffia, cinnamon sticks and vintage roses. Half bottles of Hope Estate Hunter Shiraz were given as wedding favours. Hayley said: “Hope Estate really looked after us for our wedding and everything went smoothly on the day. Everyone commented on how good the food and wine was and how beautifully the room had been decorated.”
Highlights of the day
“Excusing ourselves for about 10 minutes during the reception to have photos taken amongst the vines in the dark. It was well worth the effort as the photos turned out beautifully. The speeches were also a highlight - they were funny, emotional and unforgettable. Anthony finished his speech with a poem he composed.”
