It’s rather romantic to fall in love over a cappuccino, especially when the barista knows from first glance that ‘you’re the one’.
Abi and Rob first locked eyes at Berkelouw Cafe in Leichhardt.
“When I first saw her, an alarm bell went off in my head. My inner voice was telling me to wake up and pay attention, that this was one of those pivotal moments in life,” he says.
Phone numbers were exchanged but it wasn’t until fate led them to The Ivy a year later that their relationship began.
“I knew it was love when everything just fell into place and nothing was an effort,” says Abi.
They dated for 12 months before Rob decided to book a table at Café Sydney and propose. And so the wedding plans began.
Romance was the theme of the day and Abi and Rob were determined to have a wedding with “no boring bits.”
“The colour theme of our wedding was based around the style of our invitations which were made out of latte and pebble creek pink paper, trimmed with a hot pink ribbon with silver edges. It matched perfectly with the bridesmaid’s dresses we found at Seduce. The pink and silver detailing came through with our bomboniere, venue and table decorations and our flower girl dresses,” says Abi.
On the sunny autumn day, Abi looked particularly stunning, accompanied by her four bridesmaids and three flower girls. Her fitted gown featured spaghetti straps and a sweetheart neckline and was decorated with hand beaded crystals. Her veil was satin trimmed and she wore her hair in an elegant up-do.
The ceremony took place at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Randwick and afterwards acclaimed photographer George Fetting captured the stylish celebration in a series of candid shots.
They chose to celebrate with their 160 guests at Doltone House, Pyrmont. “We wanted the reception to have a soft romantic feel to it so we had it decorated with tea light candles, paper lanterns and softened the walls with draped fabric.” says Abi.
Each table was scattered with rose petals and the centerpieces were low – conversation and socialising was priority. Glass fish bowls wrapped internally with happy leaves and stems of pink Vanda Orchids were a stunning choice. Family and friends were treated to a 3-course meal which finished with coffee, white mud wedding cake and petite fours. The ladies were gifted pink and silver sequined coin purses to add subtle bling to the night.
Celebrations continued the next day with a post-wedding get together at their house. Soon after the newlyweds flew to LA, Greece (Santorini and Mykonos), Thailand (Bangkok) and the Philippines (Manila, Cebu and Boracay Island).
